A Wanted Woman (April 15, 2014)

A Woman Wanted

The twenty-first novel from "New York Times "bestselling author Eric Jerome Dickey, a steamy thriller set in tropical Barbados.

She is a woman of a thousand faces, an assassin who could be anyone, anywhere.

The Trinidad contract was supposed to be simple: to make a living man become a dead man. When the job goes bad under the watchful eye of a bank security camera, there is nowhere for agent MX-401, known as Reaper, to hide from the fearsome local warlords, the Laventille Killers.

Her employers, the Barbarians, send her to Barbados, the next island over, barely two hundred miles away, with the LK's in hot pursuit of the woman who took many of their own. With the scant protection of a dank safe house, no passport, and no access to funds, an island paradise becomes her prison.

While she trawls for low-profile assignments to keep her skills sharp and a few dollars in her pocket, Reaper discovers that family ties run deep, on both sides of the fight. Will the woman everyone wants, who has lived countless lives in the service of others, finally discover who she really is?

In A Wanted Woman, New York Times bestselling author Eric Jerome Dickey delivers an adrenaline-pumping rush of a read.

Decadence (April 23, 2013)

Decadence

New York Times bestselling author Eric Jerome Dickey returns to the life of Nia Simone Bijou (of Pleasure fame) as she embarks on a quest to enhance her artistic gifts through heightened sensory experience, Hollywood-style.

Four years have passed since the events of Pleasure, and Nia’s success as a writer has grown, bringing her from Atlanta to Los Angeles. But she remains on a quest to quiet her inner storm, to draw on her well of emotions and explore them fully before leaving this season of her life and moving on to what could be the next stage: marriage and motherhood.

Drawn to an exclusive pleasure palace, where patrons try on roles as they actively shun their respective realities, Nia’s ability to balance truth and fantasy becomes increasingly blurred. What has happened to the compartments she has so carefully created for the different aspects of her life? Will her relationship with the mysterious, often unavailable Prada survive the countless temptations? Will her successful literary career be given over to impulse indulgence? Does decadence know any bounds?

When Nia’s past comes back to mingle with her present, and when her staid public persona clashes with her fantasy life of decadence, readers will be stunned by the outcome. Eric Jerome Dickey’s newest tale of excess—and its sky-high costs—is a thrilling portrait of a glittering world.

Dying for Revenge

My new book DYING FOR REVENGE, the next explosive installment in the Gideon saga, and the follow-up to last year’s Sleeping with Strangers and Waking With Enemies, is in stores TODAY!

Reviews have already been pouring in. EBONY calls the book a “fast-paced story about the underworld of crime,” while Upscale Magazine says: “The mounting tension of pending death, combined with strong character development, makes this novel a tightrope read…gritty, smart and ready for the big screen.”

DYING FOR REVENGE marks the return of our favorite contract killer. Gideon has vowed to leave his life of crime behind, but he soon finds out he can never run too far from his past. When a job in Detroit goes bad, he should have killed his client—a cold-blooded woman who hired him to kill her husband—when he had the chance. Now, with money and power to spare, this woman will stop at nothing to end Gideon’s life. Gideon heads to the West Indies in search of his most dangerous adversary yet. Amidst the palm trees and white sands, Gideon must defeat his pursuer, and find a way out of this deadly game before it’s too late. But can he ever leave his life of murder and mayhem behind?

DYING FOR REVENGE is a heart-stopping, pulse-pounding thrill ride through a tropical paradise. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

PLEASURE (April 2008)

Pleasure

What happens when one woman decides to explore her every desire? My fifteenth novel, PLEASURE (Dutton, April 1, 2008, $24.95), dares to explore that very question.  Filled with sexual energy, PLEASURE centers around a woman who struggles with the old-school concept that one man should be able to meet all of her physical and emotional needs—it’s a book that sizzles with the heat of sex, love, jealousy, and obsession.

Nia Simone Bijou is a woman who has it all—and is driven by the desire for more. She sets out on an exploration of her innermost fantasies, and embarks on three passionate and forbidden affairs. Each lover teaches Nia valuable lessons about herself and her desires—but how long can Nia play with fire without getting burned?

Publishers Weekly called the book “a steamy romance” that “delivers its message that saying ‘yes’ to pleasure can also lead to self-enlightenment,” while Kirkus Reviews raved that PLESURE ”will leave you hot and bothered.”

Pulsing with an erotic beat more daring than anything you’ve seen in my previous novels, PLEASURE will keep you turning page after steamy page. Sit back and enjoy PLEASURE!

The Other Woman (May, 2003)

 The Other Woman

In his newest novel, Eric Jerome Dickey strides boldly over the minefield that is modern marriage. The central couple's biggest challenge is timing: He works days; she works nights. Instead of growing together, they're rapidly drifting apart, coexisting on stolen phone calls from work, punctuated by occasional bedroom encounters that leave them both feeling even emptier and more alone. When she finds out about his affair-and starts her own-the delicate fabric of their marriage is torn irrevocably asunder. Or is it? In Dickey's expert hands, what begins as a seemingly unforgivable betrayal segues into the sexy and searing story of a man and a woman at a pivotal turning point in their relationship. Only time will tell whether they'll let it all go...or can hold on to the love that drew them together in the first place.

Dickey's eighth blockbuster novel sparkles with humor, honesty, and powerful compassion as a contemporary couple faces the challenges that test their trust, their faith, and their staying power. Poignant and passionate, The Other Woman is certain to resonate with readers of all marital persuasions.

 Cheaters

Cheaters (1999)

"Wonderfully written . . . Dickey is able to make each character's voice smooth, unique, and genuine . . . it's a solid, enjoyable, layered book."
--The Washington Post Book World (on Cheaters)

Dickey's sexy, sassy, and sharp-tongued new novel. Taking a dip into the Los Angeles singles scene, Dickey treats us to a totally uncensored, uninhibited, and outrageously entertaining adventure in seduction, betrayal, heartbreak, revenge, and oh-so-sweet true love. Laced with humor, filled with insight, and brimming with complex, honest emotions, Cheaters is Eric Jerome Dickey's most ambitious and irresistible novel yet.

Stephan Mitchell and his best friends Jake and Darnell are living well with good jobs, fine clothes, and beckoning futures. For Stephan and Jake, who attract plenty of beautiful sisters, variety is the spice of life. But Darnell is different: He has kept his marriage vows despite some rough going...until he meets a woman who understands his dreams.

Chante Marie Ellis and her best friends Karen and Tammy are true blue soul sisters. Closer than close, going way back, they've stayed tight while each has found love, lost love, gone looking for love, and sworn off men forever. But when Chante runs into Stephan--again--at a nightclub, it could be kismet. Maybe this time she can lose her heart without getting it trampled on.

While Jake plays the field and Darnell struggles with temptation, Stephan starts seeing his life--past and present--more clearly. And as the price of playing the game and paying the consequences starts crashing down around them all, they discover what happens when the game stops: Who wins, who loses, and who cheats just one last time...

In Cheaters, Eric Jerome Dickey paints a sassy, sexy, portrait of men, women, and modern morals--in a high-spirited roller-coaster ride of a novel about the risks and rewards of falling in love

 Milk in my Coffee

Milk In My Coffee (1998)

"Frothy and fun . . . Dickey scores with characters who come to feel like old friends . . . After the last page is turned you'll still have plenty to savor."
-Essence (on Milk in My Coffee)

With his third book, Milk In My Coffee, Eric Jerome Dickey climbed the national charts, including the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and the New York Times lists, confirming the tremendous promise of his first two bestsellers Sister, Sister and Friend and Lovers.

Dickey's novel of African American romance and friendship is engrossing and entertaining; this story is definitely more developed than his two previous novels. Tennessee-born Jordan Greene, a successful, single professional living in Manhattan, is the main character. He and his best friend Solomon, who is closer to him than either of his two brothers, confide and support one another. Kimberly Chavers is the aspiring artist he meets in a taxicab, and they soon develop a relationship of substance and meaning.

The surprising twists at the end of the novel bring a good novel to a very satisfying conclusion.

Friends & Lovers (1997)

 Friends & Lovers

Second-novelist Dickey more than fulfills the promise shown in Sister, Sister (1996), again offering real characters and invigorating, believable dialogue. The loves, lives, and losses of four vibrant, Los Angeles based African-American men and women are the subjects on which Dickey focuses his powers of observation and finely tuned wit. Tyrel, whose twin sister Mye is a constant source of support, is a computer-company executive whose career is far more steady than his love life. His best friend, Leonard, is an aspiring stand- up comedian who seems poised for stardom, though also remaining unhappily single.

When the two men meet Debra and Shelby, it seems that their luck has taken a dramatic turn for the better; after a matter of days, Leonard and the light-skinned, quiet but determined Debra, an OB-GYN nurse, have fallen for each other big-time. It takes Tyrel and the outspoken, harder-edged Shelby, a flight attendant (who hates being called a "stewardess''), a little longer, but after a rocky start they too find in each other what they've been searching for.

Los Angeles seems at first a paradise for the foursome as they enthusiastically hit the beaches, comedy clubs, restaurants, and discos. Then a massive misunderstanding destroys Tyrel and Shelby's romance, leading them to move to San Francisco and San Diego, respectively; by this time, Leonard and Debra are happily married and frustrated with their best friends' inability to resolve their differences. It takes tragedy on a grand scale to reunite lovers destined for each other and to teach both couples that friendship is perhaps the most valuable gift they've been given. With four characters taking turns offering snippets of the story, it's sometimes hard to keep track of who's talking--but familiarity makes for smoother sailing through another success scored by Dickey.

Sister, Sister (1996)

 Sister, Sister

The idea of an African American "sister" novel written by a man will strike many as suspicious, but Dickey accurately details the tangled relationships between both his female and male characters. Valerie turns to her sister, Inda, for counsel when she senses her husband has lost interest in their relationship. But Inda has her own problems: first she meets her boyfriend Raymond's "other girlfriend," Chiquita; then the pair find Raymond with yet another woman, who turns out to be his fiancée. There's more: Thaddeus, Valerie and Inda's brother, falls for Chiquita, who in turn has formed a sisterly bond with Inda, despite the less-than-ideal circumstances of their meeting. Point of view alternates between the various characters as Valerie, Chiquita, and Inda share their thoughts and feelings about their interlocking relationships with one another, with men, with family members, and with the past. Remarkably, Dickey is able both to create believable female characters and to explore the "sister-sister" relationship with genuine insight.

Cappuccino (Movie) (2000)

 Cappuccino

"This movie is noir at its best. The plot is totally captivating. Following the lead character's (James Black) seek what he had lost at home only to spiral into his own destruction was awesome. Craig Ross's direction is stylish, lean, and superb. James Black and Angelle Brooks and (the fine actress who plays cappuccino) work well together to make the story plausible. It combines mind games, marital issues, lust, and murder in a smooth and easy fashion.

"This movie has more twists than Clinton's tenure as prez!..Just when you think you know what's up, you realize YOU DON'T KNOW JACK! The ending is a neutron bomb!" - Eric Jerome Dickey
